Food!

Great news!  They turned off Becca's IV fluids yesterday!  She's totally on milk now!  They pulled the PICC line (as it is an infection risk), but she will still have the feeding tube.  She can't take a bottle yet, both because she can't suck, swallow, and breathe at the same time (a skill they usually develop around 34 weeks) and because there's not a bottle nipple small enough for her tiny mouth!  Soon they will fortify her milk with some extra protein, which will hopefully help resolve the edema (which, apparently, is a normal preemie issue that isn't a problem, as long as it doesn't get bad enough to affect her breathing).

  1. Hi Nancy and John,

How wonderful that baby Becca is doing so well!

I mailed a gas card to your church address this week. I hope it made it intact.

And, Nancy, I confess, I could NOT resist some tiny pink items I saw this week. PLease let me know where I should take them. I can meet you at Vanderbilt one day or even drive them to your church--since I am RETIRED!

Best wishes to all of you.

  7. I found your site from Until Journeys End. My daughter was born at 25 weeks, and is now almost 13 mos! I understand how hard it is to be a preemie parent! Were praying for your little one! Send an email if you ever need to talk or need anything!

  8. Wow! I heard that Becca had been eating like a little piglet, and now she's up to 1' 7". WOW!! I hope to see y'all soon. In the meantime, you continue to be in my prayers and in the prayers of my whole church. Almost every night, either Tate or Martha will mention Baby Becca in their prayers. It's just gotten to be a habit. And sometimes they even mention Sisi and John. :) We'll be praying for the Berlins, too. I can't even imagine.

    Much love,
    Carol

  10. Dear Nancy, John, and Becca, You are miracle people!!! I didn't realize in the "kangaroo" pictures you were holding her!!! That ounce a day is astounding. And - I imagine you think I'm nuts, but Nancy - I think she has your eyes :). She'll learn the suck thing when she needs to - for now, she's got it made :) - what a sweetie!

  12. Hi Nancy! It's Jorie, from Brentwood. Sara (Presley) sent me a link to your website, and I am so happy things are turning around for your adorable little girl! I understand how hard it is to have a little one in the NICU, but know that those people make miracles happen everyday and your little girl is one of them! If you ever want to chat and catch up, send me an email! Your precious Becca is in our thoughts and prayers...
    Love, Jorie
