3

I just put my 3-year-old to bed for the last time.  In the morning, she'll be a 4-year-old.  Bittersweet.

Three seems to get a bad rap.  I think I've mentioned on here before than when working with other people's kids, I have found 3 to be one of my favorite ages.  Numerous friends assured me that it would be different when it was my own child being ridiculously stubborn and emotionally (and physically) out of control.  And we definitely had plenty of awful 3-year-old moments.  Becca is not a mellow kid.  :)  But 3 has also been, by far, the most entertaining age.  Her little mind is so busy making connections, and you never know what she is going to pop out with next.  For example, on the way home today, she said, "When boys come to my house, I'm going to punch them."  What what?  She's a trip.  If I'm wearing black, she pretends that I'm Ursula (of Little Mermaid fame) and runs away.  Obnoxious, yes.  Hilarious, yes (for a while).  Tonight after John got her out of the bath, she ran around the house naked and hid in the pantry.  Dripping wet.  Crazy kid.

Anyhow, Becca's third year has been a good one for us.  She's done pretty well health-wise, she's made a LOT of progress on eating, she's grown fairly well, she's made progress in school, and she'd getting close to being fully pee-potty trained (not so much with the poop).  Considering where we were 4 years ago, praying for a few wonderful minutes with our sweet girl, I'll take every single one of the 2,101,290 minutes she's been in this world...even the obnoxious ones.

Some recent shots of 3 in all its glory...

Packages

One of the benefits of being a g-tube dependent kiddo:  you get lots of packages in the mail every month!  When I brought them in from the porch, she immediately said, "Wass in dere?" and then promptly went about finding out.

Brilliance

Becca has been asking to watch Elmo all day.  John has been enjoying the NFL playoff game and didn't want to watch Elmo.

Becca gets more and more insistent as I'm playing with her.  "Elmo?" she says.  "Elmo?  Elmo!  ELMO!"  I (passing the blame) say, "Daddy won't let us watch Elmo."  Becca pauses, and then says, tentatively, "Ear drops?"

It takes me a minute, but then I say burst out laughing.  When we give her eardrops, she has to lie on her side for 10 minutes, which is i.m.p.o.s.s.i.b.l.e to accomplish without an Elmo video player (and only fractionally possible with one).  I ask her, "Becca, do you want ear drops so you can watch Elmo?" to which she slyly responds, "Yeeeesss..."

And SuperDad finally relents.

We're Ba-ack!

How about that for a Christmas break?  I guess moms get them, too!  But we're home, back to the routine, and hopefully back to blogging.  I don't have much time right now, as I've got BIG plans for this naptime (taking a hot shower!  Wow!), but I'll give you one nugget of fun in the Itty Bitty household.

This morning, I woke up to Becca screaming.  I figured that she had thrown up again like normal, but when I rushed into her room, she was waving her hand and yelling, "Pooh pooh!  Pooh pooh!  Pooh pooh!"  Yep, you guessed it, folks: her sweet little hand was covered in poop. She had apparently pooped and then stuck her hand down her diaper.  (Why, I'll never know.) Luckily for me, she was so freaked out by having something on her hand (and not just because it was poop - anything visible on her hands elicits this reaction) that she was standing stock-still, except for the hand waving.  Much easier clean up that way.  See, sensory issues do have their upside.  No poop-smeared walls in our house (yet).

Be sure to check back the rest of the week for some picture-laden Christmas recaps and a 2010 year in review series!
